Scrubby Bay House - a modern farmhouse by the sea
/This modern farmhouse designed by the firm Pattersons, set in a remote New Zealand surf beach flanked by hills, is a beautiful example of holistic design. The house is so brilliantly balanced with the land and blends in perfectly with it’s natural surroundings. It is so well integrated into the environment. The concept was conceived of as a piece of slowly aging farm driftwood, around which stock can graze. Pretty cool huh?
The exterior is untreated cedar wood with a fully macrocarpa timber interior. The central stone fireplace is constructed from rock quarried nearby. The house completely opens up to the sea and shuts down with storm shutters when needed. It is very apparent that the house was not meant to compete with the landscape, but belong to it. Yes Please.
