Get the Look - Scandi Style
/Woke up to snow this morning, I was a bit disappointed to see it didn’t last very long. I’m finally embracing winter, I was really fighting it for a long time, like literally panicking. Last year I spent the entire winter out of the country only to hear about the record breaking freezing cold temps in the northeast and feeling super lucky to be far away. So I was really dreading winter this year.
I realized at some point I just had to embrace and accept the fact that winter is here, so I’m finding ways to appreciate it. I’m actually looking forward to the first big snowstorm and accepting the cold gray days as they are. There is a stillness and quietness to winter that I find soothing to the soul. It’s a good time to hibernate and go within, to stay indoors and work on a creative project or cozy up on the couch with a good book or movie. My winter projects will be updating my home office and bedroom and carving out time to get back into sketching.
The images below are inspiring me to create my own little oasis for the winter months. These are some of my favorite Scandinavian interiors, to me they evoke a cozy winter feeling. There’s something about Scandinavian style that is so calming to the senses, It’s minimal and clutter free, yet comfortable and cozy. The combination of light wood, soft textiles, white, gray and pastel tones, natural materials and refined details. I think this style is so popular because now more so than ever we want to simplify our lives. With all the crazy shit going on in the world, we want to come home to a peaceful serene environment where we can feel safe and relaxed.
I’m big on Hi-Lo, mixing a few signature pieces with less expensive items, cause let’s face it most of us don’t have an unlimited budget. I would advise investing in a good sofa and signature piece, for example the CH-25 Chair by Hans Wegner below and mix in a few less expensive items like an Ikea dining table.
