Selecting a Kitchen Backsplash

There’s so many decisions when it comes to renovating your kitchen. In designing a kitchen you have to think about the layout, appliances, cabinet millwork, shelving, fixtures and cabinet hardware… just to name a few. The backsplash is an important feature as well, this is where you can add some color and pattern or keep it clean and simple. Here are some of my favorite backsplash designs, along with prices and links to manufacturers.

I love this blue herringbone, love it behind the floating shelves, it makes a bold statement and what a beautiful accent color. Since it is pretty bold, I would do this with a simple style light oak cabinets and a marble or white quartz counter top. http://www.nemotile.com/tile/product/towne/

Honestly, I would never really think of penny tile for a kitchen backsplash, but this is kind of adorbs and I love it with the dark grout. I would do this in a little cabin or a mid century pad. http://www.nemotile.com/tile/product/glazed-pennyround/

One of my favorite go to backsplash is the white subway tile. This one is glazed and a bit irregular so it adds a bit of dimension. It really goes with anything, very simple and versatile.

Saltillo tiles are traditionally made in Mexico. These terracotta tiles are glazed in colors and have a very homemade and unique look to them, each one is different…just like us. I also like how these tiles are applied vertically, instead of the typical horizontal.

If your a minimalist, this could be your look. Super simple flat white subway tile, can’t really go wrong. I like the dark grout here and the best thing is you don’t have to worry about the grout getting dirty.

Scallops might not be everyone’s first choice, but these ones look really cute with the wood block counter tops. These polished concrete tiles would be perfect in a beach house.

Hexagon is a simple minimal shape that never goes out of style. This looks clean and chic, love it with the black faucet.

Another solid choice is a glass tile in a square shape, it’s a little unique right? These glass tiles come in so many colors.

Zellige tile is handmade, irregular and slightly distressed and that’s the beauty of it. This tile from Clay imports also comes in amazing colors. This looks sweet in a rustic country farmhouse.

I like the look of the big chunks of marble in the terrazzo as shown in this image. This is more expensive than ceramic tile, especially if you go with a slab which you would have to do here. Looks great here with the minimal counters and shelves.
